What Sitrim is and what it is used for:

Sitrim (Sulphamethoxazole & Trimethoprim) is a broad spectrum antibacterial drug containing Trimethoprim BP and Sulfamethoxazole BP in a 1:5 fixed combination. Sitrim & Sitrim DS are indicated for Rites, otitis media, Genito-urinary tract infections, GI infections as well as some other infections.

Before you take Sitrim:

Sever hepatic and renal insufficiency, blood dyscrasis, sulphonamide sensaitivity, patients with documented megaloblastic anemia due to folate deficiency. Sitrim is also contraindicated in pregnancy and during nursing because sulphonamides pass the placenta and are excreated in milk and cause kernicterus.

How to take Sitrim:

Possible side effects:

At the recommended dose side effects are rare and mild. About 75% of the untoward effects involve the skin.Exfoliative dermatitis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis are rare. Nausea and vomiting constitute the bulk gastrointestinal reactions. Diarrhoea,glossitis and stomatitis are uncommon.

How to store Sitrim:

Store in a cool and dry place, away from light. Keep out of reach of children.
