What Glicasil is and what it is used for:

Gliclazide is a second generation sulfonylurea that has hypoglycemic and potentially useful hemobiological properties. Glicasil® 80 mg is used to keep blood sugar at the correct level in adults with non-insulin dependent diabetes when it is not controlled by diet, physical exercise and weight loss alone.

Before you take Glicasil:

High Risk Groups Neonates - The drug is not used in neonates Nursing mothers - The drug should not be used by breast-feeding mothers. Children - Gliclazide is contraindicated in children Pregnant women - Gliclazide, as other sulfonylurea, is contraindicated for use in pregnant women. Elderly - All sulfonylureas should be used with caution in the elderly because of the greater likelihood of their missing meals and the more severe outcome of significant hypoglycemia.

How to take Glicasil:

Initially 40-80 mg daily, adjusted according to response; up to 160 mg as a single dose, with breakfast; higher doses divided; maximum 320 mg daily.

Possible side effects:

Like all medicines this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. Low blood sugar (Hypoglycaemia) The most commonly observed side effect is low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia).

How to store Glicasil:

Store below 25°C. Protect from light. Keep out of reach of children.
